Being able to transfer Pokémon to the Pokémon Home app is beneficial for trainers who look to hold their hundreds of Pokémon from over the years, but it’s also the best way to move them over to your Pokémon Sword or Pokémon Shield game. And now that Pokémon Go is connected, trainers can bring over their Pokémon caught to the Gen 8 games.

HOW TO TRANSFER POKEMON FROM POKEMON GO TO POKEMON HOME

As of this writing, only Pokémon Go trainers at Level 33 and above have this functionality. Trainers at other levels will be able to do this in time, but we recommend following the official Pokémon Go social media apps for updates about when exactly that will happen.

Once you have the Pokémon Go to Pokémon Home function available, trainers simply have to open up the Pokémon Go app and go into their settings. Scroll down until you see Pokémon Home.

Click on Pokémon Home and you’ll be asked to sync with the app by signing in to your Nintendo Account. Make sure this login is the same as the one you have for Pokémon Home.

Once that step is complete, you are ready to send Pokémon.

Select “Send Pokémon” and you’ll be transported to the GO Transporter Energy screen. Transferring Pokémon from Go to Home will take GO Transporter Energy to complete. Depending on the Pokémon you send, the energy gauge will deplete. However, this gauge will refill over time or, trainers can spend PokeCoins to automatically charge it to full. We’ll get more into this feature in a later section.

If you have enough Go Energy, you can start sending your Pokémon. There are some restrictions as to which Pokémon can be transported. Pokémon with special clothing like the Ash Hat Pikachu or Halloween Charmander can’t be transferred. Pokémon Go will let you know which Pokémon can’t be transferred to Pokémon Home.

After you’ve selected your Pokémon, hit “Next” and then “Transport.” The app will send your Pokémon to Pokémon Home and the process is complete. Be sure this is what you want to do because you can’t transfer them back to Pokémon Go once the process is complete.

Open up Pokémon Home on your mobile or Nintendo Switch device and your transferred Pokémon will appear.

HOW GO TRANSFER ENERGY WORKS

The GO Transfer Energy in Pokémon Go holds up to 10,000 units and refills 60 energy every hour. Now while that doesn’t seem too bad, the type of Pokémon you choose to transfer will determine how far you can go.

According to Serebii.net, the amount of energy used to transfer depends on the Pokémon, if it’s a Shiny and what its CP is. Here’s a breakdown of the types of Pokémon and how much energy it costs to transfer.
